friday (challenged: zebra skirt)

 merona zebra skirt   cherokee girls denim shirt {thrifted new}
forever21 embossed belt   old navy bauble flats

this week my friend whitney from between the lines and i have been participating in a challenge to style some of each other's clothes that we get stuck wearing the same way over & over.  i am going to be sad when i have to send whitney all of her clothes back!  now, i love a good skirt and this one is wow!  however, like i mentioned in this post, i sometimes struggle with what to pair with skirts that are just two colors.  in fact, i just put a floral print black & white skirt in my goodwill bag.  but, i was up for whatever whitney wanted to send me and felt pretty good about how this outfit turned out.  i've learned that you can pretty much pair denim or chambray with anything and it will look pretty decent.  what a way to end the week than in a great skirt!

thursday (challenged: polka dot scarf)

merona kasey cowl sweater {thrifted new}   polka-dot scarf {temporarily swapped}
merona doubleweave slacks {thrifted new}   old navy desert wedges   forever 21 necklace
despite being the coldest morning of the season so far this year, i felt warm & cozy in this outfit.  i still can't believe we have yet to have any snowfall or overnight temperatures below freezing.  in an effort not to shock my system too much with the 18* temps this morning, i dressed in slacks & shoes so i could wear knee-highs and this cozy sweater.  and the perfect pop of something fun was this cute lightweight scarf that whitney from between the lines sent me for our challenge this week {we are styling some of each other's clothes that we get stuck wearing the same way over & over, so be sure to visit her!}  whitney is really pulling me out of my comfort zone with stripes, polka dots, and animal prints {stay tuned, that's coming tomorrow!} - but i love it.  this little print is so classic & fun and i love what it added to an otherwise pretty simple outfit.

wednesday (challenged: bow blouse)

 old navy bow tie blouse {temporarily swapped}   gap cardigan
semantiks skirt {thrifted}   handmade necklace
target belt   american eagle myles riding boots
why is it that the week leading up to a vacation is always so stressful?  i always feel twice as stressed before i can finally leave for a vacation and totally let it all go.  all i can think about is everything that needs to be done around my apartment before the end of the week {i can't stand coming home to a messy apartment after a trip... or knowing that my pet sitter is going to see my mess while i'm away!}.  hopefully my look didn't come across as disheveled as my mind feels.  i wasn't quite sure how to wear this bow-tie blouse whitney sent me for our challenge this week; i tried to be creative and wear it backwards but that didn't work, so i wore it the most natural way tied loosely in the front.  i remember seeing this blouse at old navy but didn't snatch it up, so i'm glad i got to wear whitney's!  if you haven't been with me this week, my friend whitney from between the lines and i are participating in a challenge to style some of each other's clothes that we get stuck wearing the same way over & over.  i have a few more of her pieces to wear, so stick with me!
thanks to any new followers who have come over here from whitney's blog, i hope you are enjoying following our challenge from both perspectives!

tuesday (challenged: khaki blazer)

 american eagle blazer {temporarily swapped}  banana republic skirt {thrifted}
fossil button-down   merona cardigan {thrifted new}
gold flower necklace {temporarily swapped}   xhilaration rosette flats

this week my friend whitney from between the lines and i will be participating in a challenge to style some of each other's clothes that we get stuck wearing the same way over & over.  i am glad that she sent me this blazer to style, as i don't have many blazers in my wardrobe that i wear that often as anything other than an outerwear layer.  since the piping of the blazer is navy, it may feel a little safe to pair it with a navy skirt, but i love how the full & flowy skirt is balanced out by the structured blazer.  whitney also sent me this great necklace to wear this week--hopefully it's not too hidden underneath all the layers i was already wearing!

after work, my coworkers and i met for happy hour, which was much needed after a phone conversation i had leading up to quittin' time.  i work with such great women and it's so awesome that we can meet up outside of work and continue to strengthen our team through fellowship!  it does make for a long day, though... i'm nearly ready for bed!  have a good evening!

monday (challenged: olive print skirt)

merona olive print skirt {temporarily swapped}   converse blouse {thrifted new}
old navy cardigan   target belt & necklace   simply vera tights   unlisted heels {thrifted}

this week my friend whitney from between the lines and i will be participating in a challenge to style some of each other's clothes that we get stuck wearing the same way over & over.  this is one of her skirts that i have been an admirer of each time i see her wear it.  my subliminal messages must have gotten through to her because she sent it my way for our challenge.  of course, once i got it, i wasn't sure how i would style it.  i didn't want to recreate an exact replica of one of whitney's outfits, but i didn't want to play it too safe either.

i love how whitney paired this skirt with colors like lavender, sea foam green, and pinkish red.  i was still stuck, though.  whenever i am not sure what color to wear with an item, i always reference academichic's color tutorials.  all i needed was to see was the photo on the bottom of this tutorial highlighting analogous color combinations and i knew i could pull that off with this skirt.  so, i am adding navy & teal to the mix here.  i'm starting to think any color would look great with this skirt!  what do you all think?

sunday (challenged: striped sweater)

old navy striped sweater {temporarily swapped}   old navy button-down
old navy diva skinny jeans   target necklace {thrifted new}   american eagle myles riding boots

this week my friend whitney from between the lines and i will be participating in a challenge to style some of each other's clothes that we get stuck wearing the same way over & over.  last week we each sent each other 5-7 items to style throughout this week.  when i got whitney's box, i squealed.  i mean, talk about excitement when you get a box of goodies to play with the entire week.  the first thing i did was stalk her blog to see how she wore the items she sent me and then try to get a rough idea of how i might work parts of her wardrobe into my week.  thankfully, we both have careers where we dress with a business casual mindset and we both love skirts & cardigans.  in fact, we might dress too much alike as it is because i sent her a blouse of mine to style this week that she already owns!  sorry whitney!

so, i couldn't find a picture of whitney wearing this sweater and it was one that kind of stumped me the most.  you may have noticed that i don't own anything striped in my wardrobe!  so, i'm starting the week off by getting out of my comfort zone right away and styling this cute striped sweater whitney sent me.  it's also nice to show how i style something more casually on the weekend as well.  so, for my first striped item how did i do?  i think i decided that i definitely need some stripes in my wardrobe!
