i am one of those people who has to wear new clothes i buy right away. i mean, instant new outfit = little thinking!  if too much time passes and i haven't worn something new it makes me think it was not a good purchase. i'm glad to say these pants and wedges were good additions to my closest though. i don't always have the best luck at thredup but these pants fit perfectly and are the right ankle length for my taste.  a -11 starting temp this morning wasn't going to keep me away from these pants!!  and the fun metallic wedges (thanks again caroline) added a fun touch especially as they played off the gold in the necklace and the rose hue of my sweater.

thanks for visiting!!

fancy phones.

whenever i wear this skirt, i typically pair it with one of the blues that makes up the print, but i'm trying to push myself to get past that.  it's kind of like bloggers always talk about not wearing the same outfit twice - but wearing this skirt with a navy button-down is almost the same thing as wearing it with, say, a navy sweater?  i'm not sure that this mauve color "goes" as well as i wanted it to, but i was glad i gave it a try!

the other night i kind of spontaneously got a new iphone 6 at target. there was a sale, cartwheel deal, and gift card that was too good not to take advantage of when i was due to upgrade that very day anyway. are you a geek about what kind of phone you have, or do you have to have the latest models?  the mobile guy at target definitely had a bias against apple, but i'm fine with the iphone. i know the interface and think it's visually appealing and i'm used to it, so that's basically what's most important to me. honestly, the 6 is not much different from my former iphone 4 but it is always nice to have a nice brand new phone.  :)

thanks for visiting and have a restful weekend!

conference attire.

i wore this outfit to attend an annual aging conference recently.  i could have gotten away with wearing a nice pair of jeans, but i still like to dress as i would throughout the week if i am attending a conference or seminar, even if i am just sitting listening to speakers all day.  at first i thought the conference would be a good day to test run wearing the j crew factory skimmer pants i mentioned in my september budget post, but i tried them on ahead of time and just wasn't sure at all that i could "pull them off."  so, i'm not sure what i will do with them -- list them on ebay or send them to thredup?  i'm a little disappointed with that purchase, but hopefully i'll be able to make back the $25 i spent on them one way or another.

the aging conference that i went to was fantastic!  i love attending presentations, conferences, etc in my field of aging.  the speakers were so thought-provoking, i ran into an old grad school classmate, and i really came out on top with freebies from vendors - 3 water bottles, 20 something pens, and a dozen post-it note pads...  i definitely DON'T need any more pens at home or at work, but it's so hard to snag free stuff when you are visiting vendors.  do you have the opportunity to attend any sort of conferences related to the field you work in?

i had a really fun time at the minnesota state fair monday and i have plans to go back again next weekend  before it wraps up. one dose of fried pickles just isn't enough for me!  i also may need to stop by my favorite jewelry vendor again and grab a other necklace or two. i bought the necklace i'm wearing today from them (i couldn't resist the colorful chunky beads that will be fun to build outfits around) but there were a couple others i had my eye on. last year i bought this necklace and this one. i always enjoy supporting local merchants and this jewelry vendor has become one of my favorite ones to check out at our state fair.  thanks for visiting!

mauve & mint

i've been doing a lot of online shopping this month... and i mean, a looot... but it's really my preferred way to shop.  i know what size i am at the stores i frequent so i don't need to try anything on, i have no problem stalking things i like and waiting for sales, and i can always find coupon codes for more savings or free shipping.  sure, it's delayed gratification when i have to wait for packages to arrive in the mail, but i even love tracking when it was shipped and when it will arrive.  yes, i am a nerd!  i also like the opportunity to bookmark items i'm interested in to ponder or come back to later whereas if you see something you like at a store you're more likely to buy it right then and there without giving it that extra thought.

one of the purchases i made this month was at dsw.com.  these minty cut out wedges made their way into my cart and into my heart when i tried them on.  okay, all corniness aside, these wedges are so comfortable!  the wedges i wore yesterday are a different story and gave me a painful blister, but even so i had no issues wearing these wedges all day.  i'm currently stalking the poppy red color at dsw.com but sears.com also carries the taupe color.  they're more expensive on sears.com, but i've noticed that retailer offers a lot of random promotions that could lead to a decent deal.

i couldn't think of a better color to wear with mint than this pretty rosy mauve color.  the sweater is lightweight enough to be bearable with the moderate temps right now in the midwest, but i'd welcome a few more chilly days to take advantage of wearing it at least one more time before the heat hits.

are you an online shopper like me, or do you not mind braving the crowds at malls and shopping centers?
