throwback thursday.

old navy chambray {thrifted}
handmade {by me} skirt
american eagle 'justify' heels

this week the receptionist at the nursing home where i work said she never sees me wear the same thing twice. if i scroll through my archives from 2012, 2013, or 2014 {ugh, way behind on updating that one} it may seem that way but i definitely re-wear certain items a lot.  i haven't worn this skirt in over a year though so i thought it made sense for a sunny 70* day and to join the throwback fashion thursday link up at happiness at mid-life.  this is the first skirt i ever made and i still seem to get quite a few compliments on it, so hopefully it'll continue to have a place in my closet for some time to come. you can check out other ways i've worn it here.

june 10th {subtle mixes}

talbots button-down {thrifted}   ·   handmade (by me) skirt

i think this outfit was inspired by m at apples & pencil skirts.  she always knows the perfect striped or gingham shirt to pair with a floral skirt.  i like this skirt a lot but feel like i have exhausted the tops to pair with it until i scanned the blue section of my closet (there is a faint blue outline on the white cherry blossom you may be able to see in the detail shot) and spotted this button-down in the perfect shade.  i really liked how the subtle pattern mixing seemed to work.  thanks for visiting!

mon-tues-wed

how is it that some weeks go by so slowly and others pass before you can even figure out what day it is supposed to be?  i guess that's me this week.  in an effort to get caught up i'm fast forwarding through the outfits i've worn this week instead of doing individual posts for all of them.  it's nothing you haven't seen before anyway!

i think that's enough of me for one day,  i'm off on friday but i will try to pop in tomorrow.  i hope you are all having a great week!

thursday (pea soup)

merona olive artist caridgan {thrifted target stock}   old navy white button-down
handmade (by me) skirt   lela rose for payless wells lazer cut pumps
i just wore their twin last week, but i couldn't wait to wear these heels any longer.  even though they're a half size too big... i'm in love with them.  i have kleenex jammed in the toe and heel pads in the back (which really aren't doing much), oh the things we do for fashionable footwear!  also, i have to say that this outfit looked a lot different in my mind and i felt a lot better in it, but it looks like a drab pea soup.  maybe because i was originally wearing a different skirt with it.  oh well, what are ya gonna do?  have a good evening!

tuesday (two-thirds)

handmade skirt {fabric from joanns}   old navy cropped cardigan   merona belt {thrifted new}
dkny brown tights {thrifted new}  loeffler randall for target rosette ballet flats

this is another one of the skirts that i made with my mom when she was here for a visit, and i'm not sure if i could love it any more.  my lovely coworkers were so kind enough to compliment me today too & i got to gush about it.  i picked up three more batches of fabric at joanns last night, so expect to see more skirts like these in the future if i can figure out how to wind a bobbin on my sewing machine without my mom's help.  my boss also kindly added that i always seem to put together good color combinations.  you probably can't tell that there's a tiny blue rim around the little white blossoms on the skirt, but that is the reasoning why it's paired with this awkward cropped cardigan that i've never been able to find a way to wear.  blue & yellow also makes sense to me because of the two-thirds rule.  i don't think i would have felt as confident in this outfit a couple years ago and maybe would have naturally reached for a brown cardigan instead, but i learned a lot from the chics and their color tutorials.  i would really recommend taking a look at that resource on their blog!

i hope you had a wonderful day as well.  thanks for reading!
