the last time i wore this blouse i didn't want to wear a necklace as i thought it would detract from the lace paneling... and today i covered it up with a scarf!  ha!  this is such a me look though and i loved the lighter pretty colors against the black jeans.  i swear, this scarf goes with anything!

i've been a little short on words lately so today i thought i'd join anne and participate in her "currently..." link-up today!

playing:  my sister and i visited some friends over the weekend and we played through quite a stack of tenzi cards - i've never played the game before but we had so much fun!  i love the idea of playing games like banagrams, farkle, etc but they always end up in a box in the closet and we never drag them out!  my sister and i agreed that we need to put a little basket of games like this on our kitchen table that we play when we eat dinner instead of immediately taking our plates to the couch where we sit and eat in front of the tv (please tell me we're not the only people who do this more days out of the week than not...)

going:  is it festival and fair season where you live yet?!  my sister and i are checking out two art fairs this weekend.  they are always a fun opportunity to rally friends together and check out local artists & designers (i am so excited to get a state-themed shirt from these local guys).

wearing:  my fitbit!  despite it's rubbery, clunky nature i am still remaining loyal to my fitbit and wearing it every minute of the day except when i sleep; i don't have any problems sleeping so i don't feel the need to use it to track my sleep.  in fact, on our way home last night  my sister dropped me off a ways down the road and made (cough, encouraged, cough) me to walk the remaining ten minutes home so i could get in all my steps.  seriously!  but it worked!

sipping: G&Ts.  about two years ago i decided i needed to come up with a mixed drink that i liked so i don't appear so inept when i attend a social function, wedding, or take a rare trip to a bar and need to know what to order.  enter the gin & tonic, a perfectly light and refreshing beverage that i can be assured any bartender can whip up for me but more often than not i make for myself at home at least once a week in the spring/summer.

reading: i've been reading a lot of contemporary romances lately because they're easy, entertaining reads with realistic characters and plot-lines and always follow a great structure with beginning, middle, climax, happy ending.  those are my kind of stories!  i did also recently read at the water's edge, the new book by sara gruen!  i was really fascinated by the setting and time period and the interplay of the plot lines in which certain characters were searching for the loch ness monster and others were searching for love.

double lives.

do you ever feel like you live more than one life?  a couple weeks ago i was in tulsa hanging out with my favorite band.  i have talked about this trip many times over the past few months so i'm sure you are all starting to associate heidi = hanson!  i was so exhausted from my trip and a cold that followed so i didn't manage to get any posts up last week when i returned, but i plan to share a bit about it this week!

there were many times over the weekend that i contemplated my different lives.  i have my hanson life with my hanson buddies and yearly trips to tulsa and roadtrips around the country following them to their shows.  i have this very secret blogging life that no one in my "real life" knows about.  and i have my normal go-to-work and come-home life - and they are all a bit separate. i have to remind myself that my hanson friends don't know about my blog and my blog friends don't know a whole lot about my day to day life, etc, so it's crazy when people begin to cross the line from one of my lives to the other.

rebekah, who started out as a blogging friend, is also a hanson fan and i've run into her the past two years during this hanson weekend - hey girl!  i find it so crazy that i met someone through blogging who shares the same fervor as i do about this band and also just happens to be a member of their fan club and travels just like i do to attend their fan club events.  it got me thinking that i d look forward to the day where i may meet more of my blogging friends in person and develop a different type of friendship with them offline as well.  do you feel you have just as many "lives" or do all of your lives seep into the others?

as for what i'm wearing in this post -- i wore this before my trip during national nursing home week.  last year we had a theme each day but this year staff were just told they could dress casually, which means jeans.  this seems like a very blogger outfit to me.  polka dot chambray, embellished sweater, skinnyish jeans.  i loved the look though and am thankful it was a cool, rainy day and i could handle all the layers.  thanks for visiting!

make do.

today i wanted to reach for this top that i have in a melon color but realized i haven't worn this one in cornflower blue as often.  there's a two size difference between the two tops and the size missing in between would be perfect but i make do with both.

i thought i would give an update on my fitbit today.  i've had it for about a week and have already found that it's motivated me to keep moving.  it was interesting wearing it to work the first few days to better gauge just how much i get up and walk around at work - not much!  i thought i moved around much more than i do, but there are still long periods of time when i am sitting at my desk or only get up to walk a few steps to the bathroom or something.  i'm still trying to take walks around the block my work is situated on, but as the weather gets warmer i think that will be more difficult as i don't want to come back a sweaty, smelly mess.  i am not sure how i could work in much more activity during the workday to reach the 10,000 steps goal before i get home so i have had to add in treadmill walks, but i think this is a good thing because i need to have that physical activity in addition to just steps from point A to point B.  if i got all my steps in at work during the day, i think i would be less inclined to actually exercise when i get home.

the fitbit is also helping me be more active on the weekends.  i am a homebody and like to sleep in, lounge around on the internet with coffee or lay in bed and read for hours and only leave the house for my weekly grocery store run.  i've been very motivated so far to take a walk outside on the weekends and usually another jaunt on the treadmill or shorter outside walk in the evening to get my 10,000 steps.  in the past, i never would have done that.  exercising twice in one day?  crazy!  i can find any excuse not to exercise but this little tracker on my wrist has wiped all my excuses away and since i got it, i've exercised every single day.  i'm so proud of that and i really feel my fitbit will continue to have a positive effect on my health.

thanks for letting me share - have a great weekend!

my outfit combinations are definitely inspired by anything and everything... today's was inspired by a singer i saw on the voice recently who was wearing a navy blue suit and a black button-down underneath it.  i thought, hey, navy & black look really sharp together!  enter in my new favorite jeans and a new blouse that just came in the mail!  i also commend myself for wearing these leopard print flats that have been gathering dust since january.  apparently wearing animal print doesn't come as easily to me as other prints like florals or stripes because i just haven't known what to wear them with.  it felt more natural when i added the necklace of the same hue.  and the shoes ended up being pretty apt as the day i wore this, an organization brought a bunch of exotic animals to showcase at my nursing home... the baby fox was pretty cute but i'm a-okay that i missed seeing the snake!

all the mossimo.

hey target, i'm wearing all your things!  isn't it funny how some outfits come together to feature items from the same brand?  i have been so annoyed with my favorite old navy jeans as every time i order what i think is my size online they end up not fitting at all. i'm sure this could be solved if i actually went to a store and tried jeans on but the same style and size i already have should fit, right?  i just can't figure it out.  anyway, there was a cartwheel for women's jeans at target last week so i tried on a couple pairs and these fit amazingly!   i like that they're not quite as skin tight as skinny jeans and that they have a lot of stretch so they're really comfortable.  they also ended up being about the same price with the cartwheel and my red card as old navy jeans are when they go on sale.  i'll definitely be looking for more jeans from target in this straight style in the future!

speaking of target, they recently released another beauty box (it's already sold out, sorry!), so before i ordered it of course i had to peruse the clearance.  i've had this blouse saved in my shopping bag for a while and with another 10% clearance promo i grabbed it and a necklace.  i'll probably dust off my sewing machine and slim the sides a tiny bit but otherwise it's a great blouse i can wear year round that was less than $8!  it surprisingly received a lot of compliments at work, too, which always makes something stand out as a winner.
