one of my favorite birthday coupons each year is $10 to spend at world market. i love their scarves, earrings, and kitchen section (their ceramic egg crates are my favorite earring storage solution.)  with my birthday coupon this year i ended up buying this headband and two pairs of earrings. unfortunately i must have an oddly shaped head because headbands like this (with the elastic at the bottom) don't seem to stay on my head too well.  i had to redo it every time i went to the bathroom.  at least it didn't give me a headache!

my look feels so standard most days (by that i mean i never do anything interesting to my hair, i don't paint my nails a different color every week, my make up is always pretty neutral, etc) so it was nice to try something new with the headband to add some variety to my look.  how do you feel about headbands? any tricks to keeping them on your head?

the color marissa and i chose for today is hemlock, the name of a highly poisonous plant.  kind of a downer, but with as much green as i have in my closet, it was an easy color for me to wear today!  in fact, this top jumped out at me right away as a pretty similar sage green/sea foam green.  this was initially a dress that my mom and i refashioned into a blouse late last year.  with our never-ending winter, i'm not sure i'll ever have a chance to wear short-sleeves comfortably, but i finally went for it today since it fit the color of our challenge so well and just added a coordinating blazer and scarf.

i've been wearing green every day this week in an effort to link up with andi, heather, and ashley but of course the week got away from me and i fizzled out on blogging the latter part of the week.  one of these days i'll get my act together but most days i come home and try to get on the treadmill, then cook dinner, then lay on the couch and watch prime time tv, then i inevitably fall asleep and wake up intermittently until i finally drag myself to bed and, well, then there's no blogging.  i know, i live an exciting life!  so here's my outfits from yesterday and today (friday).  

i'm not sure if anyone at work noticed that i wore green every day of the week but i'll tell ya, i have one resident (i work in a nursing home) who always notices when i wear heels and makes sure to reprimand me.  she is convinced i will break an ankle, wear out my knees, or any other number of perilous events may happen to me.  i've cut back drastically on wearing heels since starting this new job, so i find it amusing that she always zones in on me on the rare days i do wear heels!

hi everyone, are you guys having a good week so far?  mine has been busy, no rest for the weary.  i had a 2.5 hour long home visit this morning with a client and after looking at these pictures (that i took when i got home) i can't help but wonder if she was looking at me odd the entire time because of my weird hair.  i swear, it has to be long enough to donate by now!  i will miss having the flexibility of these types of home visits with my clients but i'm looking forward to a lot of changes in my life around the first of the year... new haircut, new job, moving... i know january 1st is just another day on the calendar, just another wednesday, but it still feels good looking forward to new, positive things.  do you feel that way about the start of a new year, too?  anything you're looking forward to change in your life?  thanks for visiting!

this is another blouse i ordered recently from oldnavy.com that i got in the mail yesterday. it just felt too easy to pair it with this coordinating scarf and skirt (there is hot pink & this light gray in the scarf if it's hard to see). my only regret is that i didn't iron the blouse first. it has a lovely sheen to it that just amplifies the wrinkles. i'd like to think i'm pretty good about ironing (in fact, i love to iron) so any wrinkles you see in my pictures are a result of sitting for almost eight hours at my desk, but i have to admit that i was this wrinkly all day long. at least the scarf kind of draped over the front of it to mask most of the wrinkles, right? have you scored any good deals at old navy lately? they are becoming my go-to store for colored button-downs!

april 4th {cheery}

today's outfit was inspired by jordan at opal & violet.  i loved the look she created with skinny pants, a mint cardigan, and a beautiful coordinating lightweight scarf.  my scarf options are limited, so i pulled this one out again and matched the dark purple/magenta and coral colors in the scarf to my cardigan and flats.

i'm really pleased with these flats, by the way!  they are true to size and quite comfortable, and the leather is really soft.  they also don't appear as "scrunched" as they do in the photo, i could easily slip them on and off without having to pull them up and over my heel.  they did start to rub against the back of my ankles after an 8+ hour day, but that's no big deal.  i'm really glad that i ended up getting two pairs during target's recent bogo 50% off shoe deal.  i am also so happy to be wearing shoes without socks/tights!

for "no longer neglected" today i'm wearing a combination of old and new, all of which i'm happy to say are no longer being neglected.  i last wore this button-down july 9, 2012 but it had sadly been shunned as i favored my black & white gingham shirt with slightly larger blocks.  after wearing this one today i realized it is quite versatile too.  the lighter print mixed well with the floral paisley pattern on the scarf i received in a recent order from old navy.  if you skim through my archives you'll notice i do not have a penchant for pattern mixing, but after today's effort i think i am getting the hang of it!

the bottom half of the outfit could have worked better, perhaps with a gray skirt, but my creativity is still stunted with the need to wear tights and i felt the easiest route to go was black & black.  and i'll admit that even though i am wearing these BRIGHT PINK wedges in this picture, something about it felt off to me all day and i ended up switching into a pair of black flats i keep in my desk drawer at work.  i'm not one to feel uncomfortable in color, but these shoes seemed to stand out too much against the black tights.  i don't know what my deal was--hopefully they don't become neglected!
