although i love this new skirt from j crew factory, i'm not at all impressed with my first stab at styling it.  i don't really like the way this chunky stone necklace looks with the button-down and it's a lot of navy.  i think the skirt would look sharp with just a crisp, white button-down and nude heels but our temps still call for tights in the mornings.  i will look forward to the freedom i have with wearing different shoes when i don't need to match them to my tights, but navy tights & navy shoes seemed like the way to go today.

i still wanted to post this outfit in case anyone has been considering buying this skirt.  overall, i'm really pleased with it as i usually am with skirts from JCF.  it's a nice, thick fabric with well made construction.  the green background is a little more neon than i expected but i think wearing a lot of navy in today's outfit helped balance that out.  this pattern also comes in every item imaginable if skirts aren't your thing but you like the print.  i guess it's the pattern of spring for JCF!

my humility is making it hard for me to state this, but this outfit was a hit today. yay!  it must have been a combination of the skirt and heels.  one of the girls in the beauty shop at my nursing home commented on my shoes at one point this morning, and when we passed one another again in the hall later she asked where they were from.  when i said payless she was so surprised, stating that they look like they could have come from anthropologie!  i definitely took that as a compliment.  what i liked most about that interaction is that it affirmed my belief that one can get great looks for less.  and i have yet another look with this skirt to add to this post!

i'd like to say i've been easing myself into my new job, but i've kind of just jumped right in with the work (my new job is as a social worker at a nursing home if i hadn't mentioned that yet) and i have started seeing residents, doing assessments, and inputting information into our electronic health record.  even though the place where i work is all one level, i'm making quite a few passes down the hallways and heels like i wore today aren't probably going to be realistic most days.  i'll probably start wearing more flats, wedges, or booties that attach completely to my foot and aren't as likely to fly off since i'm such a fast walker anyway.  :)  it feels good to be moving around a lot though since my last job i spent most of the day sitting in my cube staring at the computer!
