when you live in a part of the world that experiences winter, you learn how to layer up to withstand the cold.  i used to think turtlenecks were so silly, but i've come to take advantage of wearing them from time to time each winter for extra warmth.  even though my arms are mostly bare, the turtleneck acted like a base layer underneath the flannel, and the quilted vest kept my core warm enough for an afternoon out for free sandwiches and fro-yo this past weekend when it was about 40 degrees.  my twin sister and i have a birthday this week (friday!) and the freebie offers have already started rolling into our email inboxes, so i have a feeling we'll be eating and shopping pretty good this week!

this is usually an outfit you'd see me post on friday or over the weekend, and i actually wore it last friday but just didn't get it posted.  so it may seem a little out of place to see it appear mid-week, but maybe not - either way, i loved this outfit and wanted to share it!  for whatever reason, i've wanted a quilted vest since this time last year and finally purchased this one from old navy with a % off deal and gift card after seeing it on katie (maybe i can blame her for making me want to buy a new plaid shirt to go with it!).  this type of outerwear has a shelf life of about a week where i live, but i'm trying to get a good amount of wear out of it layered with fun plaid button downs underneath because that just seems to work!

this has been another lazy week of blogging for me and i feel the need to apologize!  maybe i haven't quite gotten back into the swing of things since i was on vacation all last week, but our first major snowfall this week also affected my daily schedule as i decided to stay off the roads and work from home wednseday and thursday.  i'm so glad i have the opportunity right now to forward my phone to my work cell and bring my laptop home when there's inclement weather.

this is what i wore friday for a wonderful trip to the dentist and venture into the office.  i wanted to dress more up than down since i didn't wear anything special when i worked from home earlier in the week, and i expected i would be visiting some clients.  i ended up staying at my desk catching up on things, but it still felt good to wear something a little nicer than jeans.  this outfit is basically a repeat of this one, but i had to take a cue from whitney and wear these fun boots instead!

it's true, one look at me and you know it -- i'm a boot copier.  i've loved seeing these boots on my blogger friends whitney, brynn, and alice (any others??) so when i casually strolled down the clearance shoe aisle at target this week and saw them for $24 minus a $5 fashion boots target coupon i had, i snatched them up.  i'm not sure if they make my legs look stumpy or not, maybe a skirt/dress with a higher hemline would help my legs look longer, but i think they're a fun alternative to the ankle booties i usually wear this time of the year that have a skinnier heel.

what are your favorite types of boots to wear in the winter?  surprisingly, i haven't dug any of my tall boots out yet...
