i've had this blog for a year and a half now, but there are definitely many items in my closet that i have not worn in that time--this skirt is one of them.  in fact, i've only worn it a handful of times since buying it in 2010.  corduroy is a tricky fabric, especially when fashioned in a skirt.  it won't work in the summertime (who wants to wear thick corduroy when it's 90 degrees outside?) so it's relegated to the winter, and it's just not a skirt i typically reach for since corduroy also comes across as a little more casual to me.  i was in a day-long training today though, where people tend to wear whatever, so i figured it would be a good day to pull it from the depths of my closet!

i'm trying to wear more of what i have in my closet and not immediately reach for the same items week after week (it's hard, i really want to wear this blouse & this dress again already!).  i think this is helpful for many reasons--i may realize i don't really like the item and choose to donate or sell it.  it also makes my closet feel more versatile when i'm not always wearing the same skirt week after week.  for some reason, my "older" clothes don't seem as fun or interesting to wear or remix, but i'm trying to challenge myself to do just that.

so, what does one wear when the temperature is -9 when you leave for work and the high for the day doesn't get above 0?  lots & lots of layers, i guess!  i have on a long-sleeved shirt underneath the button-down/dress/blazer combo, two pairs of tights, and wool knee highs under my boots.  i keep hearing the phrase "fleece lined tights" from different ladies around the blog o sphere and on a day like today i kind of wondered why this minnesota lady doesn't have any in her closet...?  does anyone have any recommendations or stores i can chek out that carry fleece lined tights?  i survived, though, with no frostbite to speak of so i will make today off as "successful" for that reason.  see ya, january 21st!

if there were ever a day to look your best... even if you are just sitting at your desk all day with limited contact with other humans... it should be a friday!  

this look comes across as being really professional, but i think the chunky necklace, fun heels, and casual ponytail keep it relaxed enough for a friday.  can you tell i'm pretty much in love with this outfit?

three cheers for when an outfit comes together & you feel awesome all day.  am i right!  i love my printed & handmade skirts but there is also something that is so streamlined about classic-cut skirts in neutral colors and colors that pair well together.  i only wore this blazer outside as a light layer against the chilly temps this morning {and as i ran into target this afternoon to buy this dress in the blue print!}, but i loved how the blues played together and had to snap a shot of the whole ensemble.

how great are navy & green together?  and how great are old blazers that you find at the goodwill for $1.49 with funny names like "haberdashery - by fay's closet"?  these things rank pretty high on my list of awesome things and boy, i sure waited a long time in line to buy just this blazer for $1.49, so that should tell you just how serious i am about this!  well, my funny named blazer and i have to go grocery shopping now, hopefully if i can get that out of the way fairly quickly i can justify a stop at the GW on my way home to see if there are any more $1.49 blazers that need to come home with me.  have a good evening!
