this blazer is another recent thrifted target stock finds from the goodwill.  i think my eyes bugged out when i saw it was priced at only $1.99!  even though it's always exciting to find target stock at the goodwill, sometimes it it can be a major let down. i've deduced over the years that it can come in the form of clearance, online returns, and--unfortunately--slightly damaged items. even though i try to look over any item i buy from the goodwill pretty closely, i'm always kind of worried that in the middle of the day i'm going to discover a large rip in a seam or a tear i didn't notice because it was obscured by a print.  thankfully i didn't have on my target stock goggles when i tried this on in the fitting room and after a good look, it appeared to be in tact!

 

most clothing items, target stock or otherwise, are priced pretty standard at my goodwills but there is always fluctuation - its a major treat when you find such a great steal!  hopefully i can find many ways to wear this blazer!

sometimes i try things on in the fitting room when i go thrifting and think, "hey, this looks good!"  so i take it home with me only to realize i had actually purchased a child's blazer and the sleeve length isn't meant to be 3/4 length on my adult sized arms...  this blazer now falls into that category.  i just can't figure it out!  i picked it up at savers mid-week when during a buy one item, get one item free promotion.  it was $11.99, which is more expensive than my old friend the goodwill prices their blazers (most of the time), but since i was getting another item for free and it's j crew and in great condition, it seemed to be worth it.

i'm not sure what the name of this style is, my googling isn't turning up any results, but the cotton fabric is really thick and sturdy, like duck cloth?  and the arms are yet again shrunken which made me question for a while if this was a little crewcuts kids blazer until i justified that it must be women's because of the cutesy grosgrain ribbon detailing.  well, it's a cute blazer so i'm committed to making it work!

march 29th {5D5W: casual friday}

it's true that i don't  really dress too casually on this blog.  only this year did i start wearing some casual friday outfits with trouser jeans, so that was about all i had to pull from to put together this post.  i was so inspired by fran & whitney's great casual friday looks that i think i need to step up my game on fridays.  here is a typical spread of casual friday looks for me when i wear my trouser jeans, and the fun outlier when i wore my skinny jeans cuffed:

friday (casual)

a couple weeks ago, i noticed a poster in my building notifying staff that casual fridays will be allowed moving forward.  i think i could have gotten away with wearing these trouser jeans earlier, but it's nice to have free reign to dress a little more casually if i don't have a home visit or meeting with a client.  

i also wore this to the dentist this morning, which was much more enjoyable than my last visit even though i was there to get two cavities filled.  the hygienist helper who sucked my spit (haha, sorry) complimented my green shoes and asked where i got them (target.com), then we talked about the benefits of online shopping and how she buys all her toilet paper on amazon.com because of the good deals you can find.  true!  then my dentist talked about decorating her christmas tree.  pure joy i tell you, pure joy.  totally worth the numbed cheeks i had for the rest of the day to have a redeeming experience at the dentist!  have a great weekend {we're finally getting a bit of snow where i live, yay!}.

there isn't an established "casual friday" dress code at my workplace but sometimes fun days like this come along when we're allowed to dress down a little bit!  today was the home opener for twins baseball, so staff was allowed to wear twins t-shirts.  now, how i didn't own one already is beyond me but i snatched this one up at target to wear to work today and to the games that i'm going to later in the season.  

i knew i wanted to participate in this fun "dress down" day, but i struggled with how i was going to pull off a t-shirt at work.  but then i just did what i pretty much do any other day - threw a cardigan over it and went for it.  i also took some advice from my friend whitney who is a teacher and has posted before about "how to dress up a t-shirt" at work.  since i never wear t-shirts on the weekends {i dress much like i do during the week, just in jeans instead of skirts} i'm glad i was able to get some wear out of this t-shirt since i'll probably just start wearing it to bed after baseball season is over!

today i went to an all day workshop series for continuing education credits for my social work licensure.  i've talked about attending theses events before and how interesting it is to be surrounded my other colleagues, as i'm always curious about how peers my age dress.  however, my boss texted me last night stating that it was okay to wear jeans, so i knew this would definitely be a more casual atmosphere.  if we were allowed to wear jeans on fridays at my office, this is what i would probably wear--trouser jeans, heels, and a nice cardigan and blouse.  it was definitely fun to wear an outfit like this today since i never get to dress so casually at work!
