oct 14th / i have been buying too much stuff online lately so i've been foregoing my usual goodwill trips, but putting together outfits like this makes me want to jump in the car right now and head over to my favorite GW because who knows what's out there that i may be missing?  i realize that isn't the best mentality to have when thrifting as you're more prone to pick up items you feel only so-so about, but i definitely have been missing the thrill of the thrifting hunt recently.  however, this dress is reaching it's third year anniversary of being in my possession and i still love it just as much as when i first thrifted it!  i kind of waver with my attraction toward argyle, but in a fun orange print like this, what's not to love?  i first had it paired with a plain, tan skirt but then remembered i had thought about pairing it with this dress before i fell asleep last night - i'm glad i remembered!  hopefully both of these pieces will stick around and still have relevance in my closet for years to come.

seeing as how we got over a foot of snow saturday through sunday, i worked from home yesterday (good call), but i figured i better go into work today.  my only requirement when getting dressed was wearing flat boots to trudge through my apartment complex's parking lot that isn't plowed very well yet.  i've been wanting to pair an orange cardigan with this navy swiss-dot fontana dress for a while; i only wish it draped better--it's pretty thin.

speaking of the weather (i am from minnesota, that is what we do), i had a moment of peace regarding the impending winter and snowfall on sunday... i always get anxious when i think about having to drive on slippery, snow packed roads but i think this winter is going to be different.  i'm letting go of the fear and am thinking of it more like a challenge i can develop a really good skill out of.  and seeing as how i don't really possess any other skills, driving on snowy roads is going to become one, darn it.  i give myself an A for today's ridiculous drive.  all kidding aside, it helps when you start to re-frame the things that worry or scare you to something more positive and powerful.  and a lot of self-talk and praying helps, too. 

now, i don't condone using smart phones while driving for any reason whatsoever, but how cool did this picture come out as i was stopped in traffic (i promise) along my route home this afternoon?  stay safe out there!

the last time i wore this dress was last july when the temps were much different than they are now, but i'm glad that it is a dress i have found myself wearing year round.  i really like looking back on that post and reading the thoughts i had about thrifting this dress because it still rings so true.  it still remains my all time favorite thrifted item and i am so sentimental about it!  i mean really, it's just a piece of navy swiss-dot fabric with ruffles but every time i wear it, it feels so special.  okay, enough sentimentality - see, i told you! :)

this dress ranks as one of my all-time favorite goodwill finds.  i'm not sure what the original price point was, probably over $100, and it came home with me for $6.99.  this is one of the reasons why i love thrifting so much--there is the potential of finding really high quality, lovely pieces like this dress.  it's a second chance to find something after it's passed through the stores and at a much more reasonable price.  finally, it's an economical way to update or add to your wardrobe.  i've only worn this dress a couple times {the first was to an big event hosted by my work}, but each time i do it feels so special to me... and i think that's exactly how our clothes should make us feel--no matter where they come from.  i'm so proud to showcase this dress on ebew!
