august 5th {more lattice love}

welcome to the umpteenth installment of heidi + j crew lattice print pencil skirt.  my love for this skirt really knows no bounds and i loved it with this magenta-ish button-down.  i'm slowly working my way through the rainbow of colors to pair with it {i last wore it with a kelly green hue}... i'm thinking yellow next time?  and doesn't this thrifted necklace look as if it were made to pair with this skirt?

that's all i've got!  i'm off to a concert downtown - happy monday!

this j crew skirt may be my all-time favorite thrifted piece and all-time favorite item in my closet.  it may seem silly to say that about a skirt that is a simple neutral tan & cream print, but i think that is what makes it so great as it offers so many different ways to wear it.  and i know i can't have exhausted all of the options yet, either!  today's version may be one of my favorites.  tan + jadey green?  yes!  thanks for visiting!

march 11th {neglected turtleneck}

j crew lattice print skirt {thrifted}

i am trying to be loyal to this no longer neglected challenge, but today's outfit is a little bit of a stretch--again.  i wear this skirt all the time, the last time was in october 2012.  i love this skirt so much that i try to wear it at least once a quarter though, so it was definitely time to be worn again.  this dark brown turtleneck is another story, i haven't worn it in over a year!  now that's neglected.  since my turtleneck wearing days feel numbered, i wanted to make it a point to wear it today and try a new color combination of brown and blue accents with this skirt.  i wear a lot of different colors with this tan & cream skirt, but this may be one of my favorites.

i promise i'll dig out some more neglected pieces from my closet to wear this week!

monday (staph & snags)

j crew lydia blouse & lattice print skirt {both thrifted}

i think of you guys as my friends and people who are likely much smarter than me, so i have to come to you with some of my life's burning questions.  you've already helped me learn the ins & outs of dry cleaning and probably many other things, but today i come to you with concerns about staph & snags.  are you on the edge of your seat yet?  :)

this outfit might seem more apt to wear on halloween but after trying three other outfits this morning, snagging a brand new pair of navy tights (here's where the "snag" comes in), and feeling frustrated that i didn't think i had any shoes that would look good with navy tights anyway, i settled on this outfit that i had put together and hanging on the back of my closet door.  now i need to find a way to repair my snagged tights - it is a tiny little hole, not a full on snag, so i am hoping i can sew it shut or something?  what do you guys think?  they're thicker, ribbed tights if that helps.

in the middle of my work day i borrowed some gloves, rags, and high potency cleaner from the housekeeping department at my building to disinfect my office after my coworker (she was not in our office while i was doing this!) left me a message telling me she has a staph infection.  she's had this boil (?) on her index finger that has been very painful and i guess she finally got a diagnosis.  i'm not sure if my disinfecting was effective or not (well, it was, in a way... i talk on my phone a lot, that thing needed to be disinfected!), but it's serious enough that she has to have surgery on the finger and stay in the hospital a few days.  does anyone have any experience with staph infections?  i probably shouldn't mention that i usually--okay, almost always--eat lunch at my desk.  i'm just a little concerned because we share a small office and both touch the light switches, shredder, fax machine, file drawers, doorknob, cd player, etc a lot...

well, i really can only imagine what the rest of the week has in store for me.  i hope your week is off to an equally as exciting start!

friday!

if there were ever day to wear your favorite skirt & casual denim... it should be on a friday.
happy weekend to you all, thanks for all of the support you have shown to me this week!

monday.

j crew abstract lattice print skirt {thrifted}   dexter kylie wedges

if i could wear this outfit every day of the week, i think i would.  every outfit i put together with this skirt becomes an instant favorite and i have lots of more ideas now thanks to polyvore.  it's so funny to me now that the first time i wore it i didn't know what to wear with it.  also, finding this j crew skirt at the goodwill has led me into obsessive ebay searches lately for more j crew pencil skirts i can add to my collection at a reasonable price.  there is something about a great pencil skirt that makes you stand a little taller & feel a little more confident and j crew knows how to do it so well, do they not?  thanks for dropping by!

thrifted, thrifted, thrifted - what does that mean to me?  lately i've been drawn to ensure my presence with this blog focuses more on sharing my beliefs behind thrifting & sewing & shopping smartly.  i hope that when people glance at my outfits and the tags i put behind my clothing items that they see that there is potential in shopping second-hand and on the clearance racks with coupons and dusting off a sewing machine you've never used before and learning how to make skirts in any color or print of your choosing.  i follow so many blogs that i can easily become inundated with seeing too many "c/o" tags and "want lists" and dressing room reviews and i wonder who out there is getting dressed out of their own closets or if people have packages piled high on their doorstep every other day of new stuff.  i hope that my readers see something different here and that it comes across that i like being a different type of consumer & shopper.  for some reason, this all came to me when i put this outfit on this morning.  hopefully these disjointed thoughts will reach someone out there, and of course if you have anything to share i welcome hearing it!  have a nice evening!

wednesday (j.crewing)

j crew abstract lattice print skirt {thrifted}   gap shrunken cardi

when i saw this skirt at the goodwill on monday i knew i couldn't leave it there--i mean, j crew for $2.50, come on!  i wasn't sure what i would pair with it though.  skirts that come in two colored prints like black & white or tan & white kind of throw me off - what do you pair with them other than one of the two obvious colors?  then i remembered these pictures of kelley, and i think she looks fantastic so i just copied her!  hopefully she doesn't mind.  it sure is nice when you can rely on other people to help you get dressed!
