to wrap up my week of highlighting items in my outfits that have "never been worn before," i've chosen this yellow blouse i ordered from thredup* in october 2013.  i'm always looking for blouses of the non-button up variety i can wear year-round, so that is what appealed to me with this blouse... i just have never gotten around to wearing it!  i've also only worn these toms maybe once since buying them in september of 2013 (darn you, winter), so i'm glad they are featured in this outfit as well.  unfortunately, i'll probably try to sell the blouse on ebay or i'll end up donating it.  i like the shade of yellow, but the bottom button kept coming undone throughout the day and that's too pesky to deal with... i'd rather find another flowy, printed blouse to add to my closet that i'm more in love with like i am with this one.  i'm glad that i finally wore it so i could come to that conclusion though instead of letting it continue to hang out in my closet!

to reflect on this week, i think it was good for me to make a point to wear some items i've never worn before, all of which were purchased last fall aside from the dress i wore yesterday.  i do believe that if i buy something and too much time passes before i wear it that it probably wasn't a valid purchase to begin with.  hopefully i can now start to incorporate the items i've worn this week into my regular rotation or learn from them for the future.

i got caught in the middle of a wardrobe malfunction this morning that i was certain wasn't going to end well - there is a zipper along the back of this dress and it caught in the fabric of the blouse as i was zipping it up and it wouldn't budge!  i couldn't get the dress over my head because it was zipped up too far and i couldn't wrangle out of the blouse because it only buttons halfway.  i was nearly ready to cut myself free, even if it meant ruining the blouse, because i needed to get to work!  the fabric finally came free from the teeth of the zipper before i reached for the scissors and the blouse appears to be in one piece... but what an ordeal this morning!  have you ever had to rip/cut/ruin a piece  of clothing because of a similar malfunction?  i'm so glad i didn't have to!

i am trying to think of other ways to wear this dress aside from with a navy blouse, cardigan, or blazer. i thought the mint looked nice to get me out of that rut and i have a green button-down i may try layering underneath it next. here's my tag for this dress if you want to see other ways i've worn it.  thanks for visiting!

tuesday {neutrals}

this is what i wore to work on tuesday, but it was not what i wanted to wear.  at all.  i had on a different skirt that i realized was dark brown, not black, about five minutes before i wanted to head out the door.  i suppose i could have changed into brown tights, but at that point i figured it easier to slip on a new skirt that wrangle out of tights and into a new pair.  instead i tried on about three different skirts before settling on this one as it matched well enough with the gray sweater.  ordinarily i wouldn't have posted this outfit since i felt so uninspired and boring, but it's a good reminder to myself that hey, it's okay.  and now, looking back on it a day later, i actually kind of like it!

it also felt a little redeeming when one of my coworkers said, "i like your bracelet!" and i was able to reply, "it's actually a belt!"  learned that trick from dotty - thanks, lady.  i'm not sure if my coworker though it was "cool" or not but at least it gave me reason to think my outfit wasn't totally dullsville boring.
