thrifting fail.

merona sweater {thrifted target stock}
merona skirt   ·   in pink necklace

{ similar sweater / similar skirt / exact wedges / similar necklace }

i went thrifting for the first time in many months yesterday and was pleased when i walked away with three tops, but not so pleased when i tried them on at home and only this sweater fit.  i have not been having luck shopping for clothes that fit me lately and its led me to question if i am really the size i think i am??  or should i just blame the brand of tops i thrifted whose sizing i must be unfamiliar with (elle, jessica simpson) as i've never purchased clothing from them before?  :)  well, 1/3 wasn't bad to add a nice sweater to my closet.  i love the camel and green green shades together on their own but the necklace definitely tied it all together!

on a happier note, i saw the band guster in concert last week!  my sister and i went to a lot of concerts  in our high school and college days and guster was one of our favorite bands to see live.  we saw them six times  from 2000-2004 (yes, i am a dork and i keep a spreadsheet of all of the concerts i go to).  so, it has been over 10 years since we saw them last in concert but they are still making music and touring--amazing!  i think that's one of the reasons why i am still a fan of the band hanson after 18 years.  they keep producing amazing music and keep me interested as a fan.  it's incredible to think some bands have that longevity - guster said at the concert that they have been a band for 25 years!

anyway, my sister and i went to this concert with one of our friends who we met in middle school in georgia.  we all went our separate ways after college but she actually moved to minnesota last summer.  so, it felt even more nostalgic that we were seeing one of our favorite bands with one of our oldest friends who just happened to move to the state where we both live now.  it was such a fun evening and got me thinking about all of the bands i loved in high school - eve6, barenaked ladies, angie aparo, vertical horizon, marvelous 3 (my sister and i saw all of these bands so many times in concert in the late 90s/early 2000s) and if they are still around.  some are, i know, and some aren't, but now i think i need to google some of these bands from my past or at least play them in my itunes. :)

layered lustre.

j crew lustre lace mock neck tee {thrifted}
merona doubleweave pencil skirt
american eagle (payless) mary janes
inpink multicolored stone necklace

for today's throwback thursday fashion i'm wearing this top that sadly hadn't seen the light of day since january. the inside of the fabric is so itchy that it absolutely has to be layered with full sleeves and not the cami it came with ... not ideal for summer.  i don't have many 3/4 sleeves that would work underneath it, so it's been neglected until today!  i'm also pretty sure pale pink and hunter green is one of the most interesting color combos i've thought of in a while but i kind of think it works since the green is featured in both the skirt and necklace.  maybe i need to take inspiration from myself and layer some other colors underneath this top aside from just white!

get the look:  similar top / similar skirt / similar heels / exact necklace

and don't forget, coming up next week, nov 17-21:

june 3rd {lattice love}

old navy surplus shirt    ·   j crew lattice print skirt {thrifted}
merona mariela  heels {thrifted}   ·   inpink necklace

this j crew skirt may be my all-time favorite thrifted piece and all-time favorite item in my closet.  it may seem silly to say that about a skirt that is a simple neutral tan & cream print, but i think that is what makes it so great as it offers so many different ways to wear it.  and i know i can't have exhausted all of the options yet, either!  today's version may be one of my favorites.  tan + jadey green?  yes!  thanks for visiting!

march 19th {neglected Q&As}

old navy camp shirt   ·   j crew factory skirt
mossimo wanda wedges   ·   inpink necklace

yes, i not only neglect clothes but i also neglect blogger memes.  both bri & kate tagged me for the little 5 things Q&A going around, so i wanted to try my hardest to participate.  i looked in my drafts and saw i had about two of these started from various awards i've been given in the past (sorry!).  i enjoy getting to know bloggers but sometimes in the moment it's hard to think of five random facts to share about myself!  it seriously took me about a week to finish this post, but here goes:

01 / pet peeves:  one of my biggest pet peeves is hearing coworker's dings, chimes, message alerts, and ring tones on their work cell phones when we are in meetings.  i know everyone is busy and might be awaiting a pertinent phone call from a patient or colleague, but it gives the impression that they're not fully present at the meeting if they are attending to their phone every few minutes.  i mean, if your cell phone is sitting on the table in front of you, you can still see if a call/message comes in when it's on silent!  right?  i think this is a big problem in the technology era we live in... poor cell phone etiquette.

02 / volunteering:  i volunteer with my aunt at a local organization that sews baby clothes and puts them all together in a diaper bag and delivers them to local hospitals and organizations for underprivileged new moms.  my responsibility is cutting out little sleepers and then i help to put all of the bags together once a month.  it's nice taking time out of my life to do something for someone else's and to share in something meaningful with my aunt!

03 / guilty pleasure: i have a major guilty pleasure of reading romance fiction stories on fictionpress.com.  that's probably why i haven't posted any book reviews in a while, i'm too busy reading amateur cheesiness!  actually, that is not fair--i have read some great stories on there.  and i'm willing to recommend, don't be bashful!

04 / talentless: growing up, i never participated in any sort of organized sports or dance classes, two extracurricular activities i feel were the norm for kids to start getting involved in even as early as elementary school.  i never played a musical instrument growing up either (i was in chorus in middle school & high school).  i'm come to face the fact that i don't have much talent!

05 / traveling:  the u.s. city i have visited more times than any other outside of cities in the state i live in (minnesota) and grew up in (georgia) is... wait for it... tulsa, oklahoma.  random, i know?   i know i can't just leave it there so i'll explain why--my favorite band is from there and, well, i'm still a teenybopper fangirl at heart and i think it's a rule that i have to pilgrimage back there every year or two for events they host.  it's true, i'm making visit in may.  what city have you visited the most?

okay, enough disclosures for one day!  thanks for visiting.  :)

february 7th {analogic}

j crew factory pencil skirt
merona cardigan & merona mari pumps {both thrifted target stock}

i am not a big j crew shopper.  not that i wouldn't like to be, but in recent years their offerings haven't appealed to me as much as they did say, five years ago, so i just stick with what i can find at the goodwill (one, two, three, four).  pencil skirts notwithstanding, of course.  i love a great pencil skirt in a great print and j crew knows how to do that so well.  i have a goal this year to add more solid colored skirts to my closet as well, so when an extra 40% off sale items promotion presented itself i took time to scour the sales pages and found this skirt came out to be around $20.

i played around at a color scheme designer website i like that allows you to move a dial around the color wheel and come up with monochromatic, complement, triad, tetrad, analogic, and accented analogic color pairings.  don't worry if you don't know what all those terms mean -- when you see it, it makes sense.  i really encourage you to visit that site, i use it a lot when i am trying to come up with different color pairings for outfits.  for this outfit, i was inspired by the accented analogic option with the jade green skirt as the base and orange, cobalt blue, and lime green as accents.  i also drew in the color brown for my tights and shoes.  i left out the lime green, thinking that would be a little too much, but used the blue as an accent with the belt.  i already like the way blue & green look and blue & orange look together, so all three paired together made sense to me.  what do you think?

07 December 2012

friday (casual)

a couple weeks ago, i noticed a poster in my building notifying staff that casual fridays will be allowed moving forward.  i think i could have gotten away with wearing these trouser jeans earlier, but it's nice to have free reign to dress a little more casually if i don't have a home visit or meeting with a client.

i also wore this to the dentist this morning, which was much more enjoyable than my last visit even though i was there to get two cavities filled.  the hygienist helper who sucked my spit (haha, sorry) complimented my green shoes and asked where i got them (target.com), then we talked about the benefits of online shopping and how she buys all her toilet paper on amazon.com because of the good deals you can find.  true!  then my dentist talked about decorating her christmas tree.  pure joy i tell you, pure joy.  totally worth the numbed cheeks i had for the rest of the day to have a redeeming experience at the dentist!  have a great weekend {we're finally getting a bit of snow where i live, yay!}.
