march 4th {neglected vera}

simply vera skirt {thrifted}   ·   merona tiered top
merona belt {thrifted target stock}   ·   inpink necklace

i am going to hit the ground running today as i join kate in finding items in my closet that have been neglected for far too long--something i haven't worn for a really long time or at all.  today's outfit features a mixture:

skirt:  thrifted in georgia last november (almost four months ago)
belt: thrifted a couple weeks ago (but not yet worn)
necklace: last worn seven months ago

yeah, i would say all of these items have definitely been neglected! honestly, i am not sure if i will keep the skirt around for very long as there doesn't seem to be a lot of options to wear with it aside from cream or gray, but we'll see.  thanks for visiting!

monday {thrifted j crew}

j crew blouse & j crew skirt {both thrifted}   ·  gap cardigan {thrifted}
banana republic tiona heels {thrifted}   ·   forever 21 belt & bracelet

welcome back!  well, i guess i am really saying "welcome back" to myself since i was off all last week and am back at work today.  i'm wearing one of three things i thrifted at the goodwill down in georgia last week - this great j crew shell.  it looks like it's never been worn!  i thought the pairing with the pink cardigan and more subdued gray skirt worked well.  of course i struggled with what color tights + shoes to wear since nothing in my mind seemed to go but i'm pretty happy with what i settled on (the tights and shoes are both dark gray).  and huzzah for a 100% thrifted outfit (of high quality brands too, in my opinion).  i hope you all had a great holiday and have had a chance to enjoy some time off!  i'm off tomorrow, but look for a book review that i'll be posting of a book i read in a just a few short days last week.  thanks for visiting!

thursday (hey!)

old navy turtleneck    ·   merona essential cardigan
mossimo trs skirt {thrifted target stock}   ·   banana republic tiona heels {thrifted}

i promise you all i have been getting dressed recently, i just haven't had a lot to say.  i had two posts from this week started and still saved as drafts because i didn't feel as though there were anything to hit "publish" to.  please forgive my absence!  some weeks i don't have much energy to analyze what i'm wearing; my job is so mind-consuming that i don't have much brain power left at the end of the day!  i'm also the type of person who prefers to be on the outskirts of crowds observing and watching rather than participating in the middle of it, so i sometimes feel a little odd that i'm the star of the show around here and that there may be at least a few people out there who look forward to seeing what i am wearing and what i post.

so here i am with a little hello to all of you out there and to show you what i'm wearing--can you believe this--a turtleneck?!  don't ask.  "fall" has skipped merrily past the upper midwest and i am now scraping frost off my windshield in the dark most mornings and refusing to turn on the heat out of protest.  yesterday i changed into a long sleeve tee over a regular t-shirt, a sweatshirt, a puffy vest, a scarf, a knitted hat, sweatpants, and sweater boots.  come to think of it, i think that would have been a more interesting picture to show you than what i wore today.  :)

i've got you beat, anne! :)

wednesday.

merona artist cardigan   j crew frances blouse   mossimo slacks {thrifted}
banana republic tiona heels {thrifted}   inpink linked circles necklace

just a simple little outfit to get me through the day of sitting at my desk all day doing paperwork and charting... don't worry, i took a couple breaks away from my basement office to see what was happening in the world and to get some quality doses of vitamin d outside.  i'm glad i got everything done today that i wanted to so i can focus on other things tomorrow.  have a good one!

tuesday (pastels)

old navy faceted button cardigan {thrifted}
handmade {by me} skirt   banana republic tiona heels {thrifted}

happy day of pastels!  and a big thanks to ebew for helping me get dressed one day a month!

this is odd, but i didn't realize until looking at these pictures that the fabric i made this skirt of has a predominant paisley swirl.  that part of the print never jumped out at me while i was making it or when i looked down at my lap today or at myself in the mirror.  isn't that odd, how sometimes you can be drawn to one part of something (for me it was the actual colors in this fabric) and not be able to see it as a whole until some time later?  yet another reason why taking pictures of yourself every day can lead to so many insights... thank goodness i kind of still like this fabric (and i have a mauvey colored cardigan that will match the swirl!).  thanks for dropping by!

wednesday (untucked)

gap plaid ruffle placket shirt {thrifted}   mossimo cardigan {thrifted}
banana republic paper bag skirt {thrifted}   banana republic tiona heels {thrifted}

another entirely thrifted outfit, i love it.  and total cost of this outfit was $10.47, is that crazy or what!  thank you, goodwill.  i really liked the idea of this skirt when i found it at the GW but wasn't sure what to pair with it since it's a paper bag style skirt.  tuck or not to tuck, that was the question.   then i decided that for as much as i eschew trends & fashion rules, i just needed to wear it already {it's been hanging in my closet since august}.  i love the dark gray against the magenta and the nice matchyness factor with those great BR heels i can't stop yapping about {they were $1.49!}.  but midway through the day i was questioning again the tuck factor and decided to take a picture of both options when i got home when i got home... and when i put the two pictures side by side i see such a huge difference.  don't you?  the picture on the left looks put together & professional but still a little bit fun.  the picture on the right seems a little sloppy and missing something.  can you guess what way i looked the entire day?  the picture on the right.  i'm glad that i have this hobby & format to help me take an honest look at how i appear & how i feel... and maybe do something a little bit different the next time... next time i will definitely tuck!

wednesday (misses)

gap sweater   handmade (by me) skirt
target necklace   banana republic tiona heels {thrifted}
i know i gushed about these shoes this morning {check out that post here if you missed it}, but i think they will unfortunately be resigned as my no-home-visits-sitting-at-my-desk-all-day-shoes.  yeah, ouch.  the walk to my building is a bit longer than it used to be since we moved offices a couple weeks ago, not to mention i had a meeting off site, so that equaled lots of walking... in the rain... and lots of walking & going up and down stairs this afternoon in my building.  thank goodness i have a pretty private office and could kick these babies off (gently) when i got back to my desk.
oh!  and i made this skirt a couple weeks ago, but its debut was pushed back since last week was pants week... but i am not sure how i feel about it.  this is my favorite shade of green, but i think i made it a little too short for my comfort.  if anyone might be interested in a hand-me-down hand-made skirt, you might be seeing a giveaway for it sometime soon.  i'm not too bummed, though, as i can always make more skirts.  see exhibit A below of the mounds of fabric i scored yesterday at the goodwill for a whopping $7.50.  each piece was $1.49!

{navy with print / brown plaid / light blue / coral pink / cream}

wednesday (a mid-week share)

blog, meet my new banana republic tiona heels that leaped out of the smelly & crowded reject bulk shoe bin at the goodwill on sunday morning and into my life.

 don't worry, they looked a lot prettier once i cleaned them up.
i have no more words... i mean, who would donate these beauties?
