for today's "four things friday" post i'm to talk about four foods i love & four foods i avoid.  now, i am by no means a picky eater so there really may only be about four food items that i prefer not to eat!

seafood:  i've never been able to stomach the thought of trying fish, scallops, shrimp, etc - it just has never appealed to me.  i will eat canned tuna fish and i tried a bit of smoked salmon once but i don't think i'll ever be one to consume seafood.  sorry, omega 3's!

mustard: i have never, ever cared for the condiment but put a bowl of potato salad in front of me and i'll demolish it.  and those honey mustard pretzels?  same thing.  it makes no sense, i know!

mushrooms:  now, mushrooms aren't my favorite but if they're in a dish where they are sautéed and cook down quite a bit or are masked amidst many other ingredients, like in a casserole, i can handle them.  likewise, i won't pick them out of something like just a small mushroom on a supreme pizza, but i do try to avoid them.

malt flavoring/malted milk balls: see, i told you i was kind of stretching myself here in coming up with foods i avoid, but i was reminded of how much i dislike malt flavoring of any kind when a jar of candy was passed around the table at a meeting this week and i passed them on to the next person upon learning they were whoppers.  no thanks!  i don't care for the texture and i don't think they provide that sweet flavor i look for in candy.

and i might as well just lump in there four of my favorite foods:

pizza (any kind of supreme pizza will do)
quesadillas (nix the sour cream, but add chicken and lots of guac)
chips (cheddar and sour cream ruffles are #1)
sandwiches (seriously.  any kind of sandwich with lots & lots of fixings and fancy bread.)

happy friday!  if there were ever a day to wear a blouse with funny looks hearts on it, it should be a friday!  because who doesn't heart fridays?  haha, ba-da-bum! i'll be here all next week!

here is what i wore today, short and sweet!  i haven't really felt too inspired by my outfits lately but this really felt like a "me" outfit and i really enjoyed it.  and i would be lying if i said i didn't want this blouse in every color. it's just too perfect. have a great weekend!

to wrap up my week of highlighting items in my outfits that have "never been worn before," i've chosen this yellow blouse i ordered from thredup* in october 2013.  i'm always looking for blouses of the non-button up variety i can wear year-round, so that is what appealed to me with this blouse... i just have never gotten around to wearing it!  i've also only worn these toms maybe once since buying them in september of 2013 (darn you, winter), so i'm glad they are featured in this outfit as well.  unfortunately, i'll probably try to sell the blouse on ebay or i'll end up donating it.  i like the shade of yellow, but the bottom button kept coming undone throughout the day and that's too pesky to deal with... i'd rather find another flowy, printed blouse to add to my closet that i'm more in love with like i am with this one.  i'm glad that i finally wore it so i could come to that conclusion though instead of letting it continue to hang out in my closet!

to reflect on this week, i think it was good for me to make a point to wear some items i've never worn before, all of which were purchased last fall aside from the dress i wore yesterday.  i do believe that if i buy something and too much time passes before i wear it that it probably wasn't a valid purchase to begin with.  hopefully i can now start to incorporate the items i've worn this week into my regular rotation or learn from them for the future.

happy friday!  the end of this week definitely feels good; it was a long but productive week at work and i am ready to do nothing all weekend... except maybe plan some outfits for next week.  i've decided i need a little more organization to getting dressed each week so i'm implementing some themes for myself to guide the selection of at least one item i can build an outfit around.  

starting monday i'll be doing a "never been worn before" week... my outfits will feature at least one item i've owned for a week, a month, a year (yes, those items exist in my closet), whatever, that have never been worn.  i'm not doing a link-up, but if you want to join me or use my theme as inspiration for yourself at some point next week, feel free to do so!  and please, someone out there tell me that you, too, have something in your closet you've owned for a year and has never been worn.  someone... anyone?  :)

so, minnesotans definitely don't lack in their ability to make up cold-weather puns or words, nor do we ever seem to tire of talking about the weather.  it makes me wonder what would occupy our conversations for half the year if the topic of weather didn't exist.  what would we talk about relative to our state or where we live?  what would be our lead in comment when we greet a coworker or when the cashier at the check out asks us how we're doing?  then again, as i write this i guess i am falling into the cliche.  does it still count if you complain about the frequency with which people discuss the weather?

well, onto my outfit... here's what i wore to work on friday after a snowmageddon 10" snowfall.  skinny jeans and boots was the way to go; i didn't want to change into another pair of shoes when i got to work and instead wear something i could tromp through the snow in, so tall boots it was.  a quirky animal print sweater also seemed to be appropriate for a friday wrapping up a long workweek and somehow seemed to mirror my attitude toward the snowpocalypse outside.  i mean, you just have to find some humor in it!

do people in your "neck of the woods" go on and on about the weather as much as they do in the upper midwest where i live?  have a great weekend!

let it be friday / if there were ever a day to wear a sweater with a bird on it, shouldn't it be on a friday?!  sorry my hair is so long and you can't even see it -- i really thought it would be long enough to cut and donate by now, but i need to hold out a little longer!  happy weekend, friends!

guys, we've made it to friday and the last day of the patone-inspired fall color challenge marissa & i have been co-hosting this week!  today we're wearing acai, a rich, deep purple.  along with tuesday's turbulence, this color gave me some pause.  i have a couple lighter purple button-downs {remember when we had african violet as one of our color selections during our spring link-up?} but nothing in a true, darker purple except this v-neck sweater.  i struggled with what to wear with it and finally came up with this outfit!  i added the top underneath in a different purple hue and then some black denim because hey, it's friday.  i was considering wearing some tall boots but then reached for these colorful flats that feature the same shades of purple - i've never worn heels or wedges with skinny jeans before but you know what... i loved this look!  what a great way to wrap up the week and this challenge in an outfit i feel fantastic in!

sept 13th / i knew i wanted to wear my black skinny jeans again today and my new toms that came in the mail yesterday (love toms so much), so with half of the outfit put together i just had to figure out what to wear on top!  our temps have been dipping down this week, enough that i felt i could wear a lightweight sweater layered over a button-down.  the toms didn't end up feeling right when i got to the office (too casual with the button-down/sweater/necklace combination), so i was glad i have an old pair of black flats in my desk drawer.  i've worn this top-half of the combination before but i like what i like and i would wager that none of you would remember i'd worn it before anyway!  happy weekend!

august 23rd / i loved how this outfit came together so i wanted to quickly write up a post!  when old navy was offering jeans for $15 a piece last saturday, plus the opportunity to earn super cash, i ran right over!  jeans have always been my apparel item of choice for evenings and weekends and i hadn't bought a new pair since i worked at old navy several years ago.  i got a nice dark wash boot cut pair and these black skinny jeans.  i kind of surprised myself by wearing them as they were intended and not waiting to wear them with tall boots this winter... but i loved it!  i tucked the hems under a bit to give the appearance of ankle pants and paired them with a pretty printed blouse & colorful flats.  i'm all about pushing myself these days and i loved how it turned out!
