this week i'm participating in andi, brynn, and kate's florals week.  i'm not sure that i realized quite how many items i have in my closet until i started pulling items i may want to wear.  i'm starting out the week wearing this statement necklace.  i really liked how the magenta in the flowers on the necklace matches with the magenta skirt.  this isn't a shirt i reach for often, but i liked how the cornflower blue acted as a good neutral against the bright skirt.  unfortunately, i think i need to retire this button-down.  sometimes it works to size up and shop in the kids department, but i have a couple shirts i've tried this with and i just don't think it works for me.  the front placard puckers, sleeves have to be rolled up, and the buttons are on the wrong side!  :)  the option i linked to below is very similar, but a $70 price tag for a shirt makes me nauseous.  i guess the search is on!

i'll be participating in this florals theme all week, but i wanted to go ahead and let you guys know that my friend marissa and i are hosting another pantone-inspired color challenge next week starting april 14th!  we enjoyed this challenge last fall and last spring so much that of course we had to keep it going.  i'll post a couple reminders throughout the week but wanted to go ahead and post the graphic so you can be thinking ahead if you want to join us!

my friend brynn wore this exact shirt earlier this week so i used her as my inspiration to put together an outfit with this shirt myself.  the polka dots are navy but they're so small that i think they could easily pass as black, so i kept my bottom-half neutral with black tights and flats and added the magenta skirt for some color.  my only regret is that i didn't add some sort of necklace--it seems like it's missing something.  i don't know why i never have these realizations until the end of the day and i take pictures as opposed to the start of the day when i'm looking in the mirror!

old navy consistently ranks as one of my favorite stores because they always have great button-downs season after season, and they've also been my go-to store for jeans for a long, long time.  so how can you really say no to picking up such great staples?  clearly i can't; i think i put in an order at oldnavy.com a few times a year!  at least there are always really great sales.  what's the last item you picked up from old navy?

august 13th {jewel}

this is a pretty simple outfit:  blouse + skirt, but i really liked the unexpected combination of the green + magenta.  i have only worn this blouse once last summer, so it felt good to let it shine at least once this summer.  our air conditioning has been off and the windows have been open for the longest time, so it almost doesn't even feel like summer right now.  but unlike the person who resides in the cube in front of me at work who has her space heater by her feet turned on all day long, i still can manage wearing short sleeves or 3/4 sleeves - this outfit just felt like it needed to be blazer-ified (the blazer and wedges are navy).

am i dressed in enough color today!?  i know, i couldn't help myeslf.  i also have to draw attention to these sandals.  i am not an open-toed shoe kind of lady but as each spring rolls around i find myself searching for a pair anyway, maybe to revolt from my feet having been in tights for so many months.  these were a splurge on amazon (i literally stalked them in my shopping cart for a week until one pair was remaining in my size) but i'm really happy with them. it's nice to know i can still push myself out of my comfort zone but be happy with the end result.

i've been hanging onto this cute lace top for a couple weeks now and today was the perfect day to stop neglecting it and wear it for marionberry's trend of the month challenge: lace!  i know i've basically hidden the entire blouse under the blazer and scarf, but it is a cute top despite being a little too short - it is a junior's brand, after all.  i imagine it will work okay for me though as i'll still be able to tuck it into skirts.  i've wanted to add a lace top to my wardrobe for a while and i think i will definitely get a lot of wear out of this one!  i think navy & magenta always look great together too, so this turned out to be one of my favorite recent outfits (except the snagged tights).  thanks for dropping by!

i tell you, the clearance shoe aisle of target is a dangerous place to happen upon, but how can you look away when 70% off signs are flashing in your face like a lit marquee?  oh dear.  it's all justifiable though when you come away with two pairs of shoes unlike anything you already have for less than $20 and you used gift cards that covered most of the cost.  i love, love, love chestnut/cognac brown so these shooties were a no-brainer, especially after lusting over the TOMS version that are sold out everywhere in my size.  i also picked up a pair of teal wedges to work toward my goal of adding more colorful shoes to my shoe closet this year.  not that i want to be an enabler or anything but what are you still reading this post for?  go to target and get yourself some new shoes!!  have a great weekend & thanks for visiting!

this is one of those outfits that just came together really easily and without a lot of thought and i loved it.  isn't it awesome when that happens?  it definitely adds a little pep to your step... even if you're just working away like a busy bee in your quiet office all day (i definitely don't mind days like those!).  have a nice evening!

i put this blouse on my virtual wishlist when i saw this post at the blog what would emma pillsbury wear? that combined my favorite target skirt and various blouses & cardigans. it's one thing to look at each of these pieces individually (as i did many a time on my weekly target trips) but it's defintely helpful & inspiring to see them paired together and styled by someone else.  unfortunately, this blouse had already been phased out of my target's clearance racks and knowing that it had been clearanced in stores didn't leave me inclined to buy it at full price online.  yesterday i randomly popped into a goodwill i don't frequent much these days and there this blouse was, waiting for me!

as much as i love wearing tights in the fall/winter, i still struggle when the outfit i want to wear doesn't look good with tights.  i felt like black tights were the only option but that i then had to bring in more black, hence the blazer.  in the end, however, i feel this outfit is very "me" and i am so happy to have added this blouse to my wardrobe!
