the replacements.

last month, i mentioned i got rid of a few pairs of shoes, including this pair of fioni booties from payless.  i snagged them on ebay after having kept them in mind for years and years, seeing them on one of the first style bloggers i ever followed.  unfortunately, they were pinchy tight and uncomfortable and i didn't wear them that much!

i had some  reward money to use up at dsw by the beginning of the month, and after two trips to an actual store and multiple searches online, i finally bought both the necklace and the booties you see me wearing here.  black booties seem kind of like a boring purchase to me, kind of like toilet paper -- necessary, but money you'd rather spend on a new purse or something.  either way, i was happy to find a more simplistic style with lower heel that appealed to me for a reasonable price tag.  i've also been looking for a statement necklace with predominantly black/clear stones ever since this one arrived broken, so i was glad to also find one at dsw.com i could add to my order to qualify for free shipping!

it feels good  to make replacement purchases that i know will have much more staying power in my closet!  do you often get rid of specific items in your closet as you know you can replace them with a better alternative?

thankful for: merona cecila skirt

old navy v-neck sweater
merona cecila skirt & bella flats
target three flower cluster necklace

today i'm expressing thanks for the merona "cecila" skirt i found on clearance at my local target for $15.10 in august of 2011.  august of 2011!  honestly, i'm pretty surprised that something has hung around in my closet for almost 3 1/2 years and i am still wearing it just as frequently now as i did when i first purchased it.  i've proclaimed my love for merona's skirts time and time again and this one is clearly no exception.  it is the primary skirt i reach for whenever i just don't know what to wear and it ends up pulling through for me time and time again.

i was kind of surprised after looking at these pictures that i've never worn it with the same top twice except for today with this green sweater!  i'm also surprised that i've never paired it with a navy blazer.  good to know i can still think up a few more unique combinations.  but i think it goes without saying that i've definitely gotten my $15 out of this skirt.  here are all of the ways i've worn it so far (oh, so many different hair lengths).  click to enlarge!

green + coral.

banana republic button-down {thrifted}   ·   old navy sweater
merona skirt   ·   groopdealz necklace   ·   dexter wedges

i've only worn this necklace once, i've never worn this button-down, and i can't remember the last time i wore this sweater... so it feels good to get them all joined together for an outfit that i think turned out pretty great.  i would have preferred wearing a different pair of shoes because these cognac-colored wedges are a weekly staple but i'm just out of ideas of what color tights & shoes to wear together and only really have one pair of brown shoes.  plus, i think the roads and sidewalks in the entire state of minnesota are pretty much the texture of an ice stating rink, so any shoe with a flat bottom is wise these days!

thanks for visiting!

tuesday (brougt to you by fay)

 haberdashery by fay's closet blazer {thrifted}   isaac mizrahi for target button-down {thrifted}
old navy sweater   merona doubleweave skirt {thrifted target stock}

how great are navy & green together?  and how great are old blazers that you find at the goodwill for $1.49 with funny names like "haberdashery - by fay's closet"?  these things rank pretty high on my list of awesome things and boy, i sure waited a long time in line to buy just this blazer for $1.49, so that should tell you just how serious i am about this!  well, my funny named blazer and i have to go grocery shopping now, hopefully if i can get that out of the way fairly quickly i can justify a stop at the GW on my way home to see if there are any more $1.49 blazers that need to come home with me.  have a good evening!
