today is day 4 of the pantone-inspired fall color challenge marissa and i are hosting this week.  today's color is mauve mist.  i'm a little embarrassed to admit that perhaps i have had the wrong definition of mauve in my head because when i first thrifted this blouse (actually, it's a way-too-short dress) i called the color mauve in my mind.  however, pantone defines mauve as "a romantic and elegant purple shade" (x).  of course i had to dig deeper and other definitions i found describe mauve as a moderate purple, violet, or lilac color.  really?!  i always thought mauve was a grayish pink!  well, for what it's worth i'm sticking with my definition of mauve because hey, what fun is this color challenge if you don't stretch it a bit?

when i first wore this top i thought it would look great with a dark red skirt even though that color isn't really featured in the print (i think the leaves on the flowers are more brown) but since then i've imagined many other outfits to create with a dark red skirt. shopstyle came through for me and found one at target, of course.  i don't know why i didn't think to look there first!

unlike the doubleweave skirts i like so much, this one is a different style that i almost like better.  the length is a little longer and the the fabric is a lighter weight. it comes in some other classic colors too. overall, i am so impressed i am with this skirt and i really do love how it looks with this blouse.  isn't it a great feeling when an idea you had in your head ends up working perfectly?  thanks for visiting!

so, i've never owned any clothing from forever 21 before but during my last two thrifting adventures i've found two pieces that i actually wanted to buy - yesterday's skirt and today's dress (worn as a blouse).  it caught my eye right away due to the pretty floral print and 3/4 sleeves.  i think it would look great with a maroon skirt, but since i don't have one of those i paired it with my orange one, which i haven't worn in a really long time.  i tried to balance out the brightness of the skirt with this brown blazer i wear all the time (almost as much as it's khaki counterpart) but i also still like how it looks without the blazer.  i've always liked forever 21 for accessories, mainly belts and bracelets (like the one i'm wearing today), but if you look hard enough they often have decent, quality clothing too.

have you found any good finds while thrifting lately?  tomorrow all tags are half off at goodwill, so i'm sure i'll make it to a couple stores.  just the way i like ringing in the new year!
