welcome to day 3 of the pantone-inspired spring color challenge marissa & i are hosting! it has been so fun seeing everyone's colorful looks so far and i'm looking forward to seeing your dazzling blue looks today.  this color is pretty much cobalt blue, right?  i think any bright, saturated blue color would work but i opted to wear this new-to-me cobalt blue sweater i ordered from thredup recently.  i have been mentioning thredup a lot lately, but i just love browsing through their website... maybe because i haven't actually been thrifting at the goodwill recently so placing orders at thredup is like thrifting from the comforts of my own home!

your eyes are not deceiving you, it is indeed june 4th today and i am indeed wearing tights.  at some point, you'd think you wouldn't have to look at the weather forecast before getting dressed for the day but, well, we are not quite there yet in minnesota.  i also have a feeling that i could comfortably wear tights for the rest of the summer {wait, is it summer?!}  based on how frigid the office building is where i work.  i already have an extra blazer and scarf at my desk, but i'm starting to think i need to bring a light throw too.  oh well, happy tuesday!

i'm taking a break from no longer neglected today to start wearing some of the new items that i've purchased recently.  i did some ironing last night and felt a little overwhelmed with all of the new or new to me items that are entering my closet.  i seem to always be scrounging for hangers, especially when all of my laundry is done.   i have a sneaking feeling my closet is trying to tell me something...

i've been itching for a plaid shirt for a while in a more masculine print and found this one in the kids department of old navy.  even though there's pulling around the bust i'm willing to deal with it because i love the plaid print so much!  maybe some fashion tape would help.  here are some of my favorite looks lately that inspired me to get some plaid into my closet:  peggy / cee / ginny / m /  there have probably been more, i should start utilizing pinterest i guess to remember what i have been inspired by!

in other news, did everyone hear that google reader is being retired on 07/01/13?  i'm pretty devastated.   what other readers do people use to follow blogs?  it's going to be hard for me to transition to something else but i better start figuring that out now!  bloglovin' i guess?

i feel the most put together when i match, so it makes sense that i am wearing at least two pieces of each color in this outfit that match.  before i added the blazer, the black on the shirt (this is my first gingham shirt, sound the trumpets!)  felt too bold against the brown tones and didn't have anything to anchor it to the rest of the outfit.  i think a black belt would have worked, but then my brown boots would have been the outlier.  keeping the brown belt and adding the black blazer tied it all together, as blazers usually do, and created a duo of black items to join the already paired turquoise skirt & earrings (sorry you can't see 'em) and brown belt & boots.  this is how my mind works -- is it totally crazy?  i'm going with it!  have a good weekend and thanks for your comments this week!

i know i wore a skirt practically this same shade last week but i could barely remember that, so i'm hoping you guys won't really mind or have remembered either.  :)  that skirt was just a stand-in anyway until i could exchange this merona skirt for the correct size.  these booties were a staple in my wardrobe last fall/winter and i wore them a lot with tights but this is my first time wearing them without tights.  i think they look kind of funny, but i'm convinced that it's good to mix things up once in a while even if it takes you out of your comfort zone.  i'm kind of surprised that we're into october and i haven't pulled out the tights box yet, but i know it's coming (friday??).
