a better blazer.

talbots blazer {thrifted}   ·   semantiks skirt {thrifted}
merona maye heels

oct 29th / this is one of three blazers i thrifted over the weekend, two from talbots.  don't you love hitting the thrift store and finding multiple items you know were donated from the same person that are exactly your size?  unlike the talbots blazer i wore during koi day last week during the pantone-inspired fall color challenge, i can tell by the tag that this talbots blazer is more current and definitely more appropriately sized for my frame -- or at least more preferable for my frame.  i love the shade of green, the 3/4 sleeves, and that it hits right at my hips.  there is no button and i liked the way it looked better closed, so i cinched it with a belt.  i think i will definitely be adding a button though so in the future a belt doesn't distract from the cute bow on the pockets.  thanks for visiting!

get the look:  similar blazer / similar skirt / exact heels

23 January 2013

january 21st & 22nd {oh and two}

here's what i wore tuesday {what was i thinking, orange two days in a row?  and the scarf didn't come across as infinity-esque as i would have liked} and today {this outfit looked better in  my head but aside from the washed out looking pink hue of the button-down, i guess it's not that bad}.

maybe i'm being unnecessarily hard on myself, i just had higher hopes for putting together better outfits this week since i loved monday's outfit so much.  well... the good news is i get to try again tomorrow.  thanks for visiting!

don't forget to enter my giveaway for a cute pair of bauble bar earrings!

monday (redeemed)

old navy cardigan {thrifted}   ·   merona bow blouse {thrifted target stock}
semantiks skirt {thrifted}   ·   mossimo wanda wedges

i definitely woke up on the wrong side of the bed this morning.  i was worried about a home visit i had this morning and the topic i needed to discuss with a non-english speaking client and her son - i was dreading it.  i was also far too concerned about what to wear.  i always stick with slacks and shoes i can wear socks with when i visit my culturally diverse clients as it is more customary to remove my shoes at their door but i didn't want to lose any confidence by wearing something i didn't feel that great in or excited about.  i felt that the compromise of tights instead of slacks & socks worked okay and ended up being completely appropriate within my client's home environment.  the one time i met with one of my non-english speaking clients in a skirt and flats {this day}, i did not remove my shoes and i felt extremely disrespectful and uncomfortable the entire visit.  i knew about this norm but ignored it for whatever reason that day, which i felt really ignorant about afterwards.  i will never be an expert in the culture of those who i work with, but a lot of conversation and research will help me learn and i always try to start out on the right foot by obeying some of the most common norms.  and it turns out that the topic of discussion i was so concerned about this morning was resolved before i got there, so we were able to move forward and have a really great visit.  isn't it funny how things like that work out?  i'm so glad my day ended better than i allowed it to begin!

disclaimer: yep, same blouse i wore friday but in a different print.  and sorry for the lumpy sweater!

tuesday (simple)

ann taylor blouse {ebay}   ·   mossimo cocoon cardigan {thrifted target stock}
semantiks skirt {thrifted}   ·   mossimo wanda wedges

simple / sometimes i come to a standstill of how to talk about the clothes that i wear or the reasons why i pair certain pieces together and how it makes me feel... yada, yada, yada.  sometimes it's just as simple as, "i felt great in this outfit" and "i love how this came together!" and it doesn't need a really long explanation.  so, that is what i am giving you today: a simple outfit & a simple post.  i hope your week is off to a great start!

27 April 2012

friday.

mossimo scoop neck sweater {thrifted target stock}   haberdashery blazer {thrifted}
semantiks skirt {thrifted}   mossimo wanda wedges   target belt {thrifted target stock}

three cheers for when an outfit comes together & you feel awesome all day.  am i right!  i love my printed & handmade skirts but there is also something that is so streamlined about classic-cut skirts in neutral colors and colors that pair well together.  i only wore this blazer outside as a light layer against the chilly temps this morning {and as i ran into target this afternoon to buy this dress in the blue print!}, but i loved how the blues played together and had to snap a shot of the whole ensemble.

thank you so much for dropping by this week and supporting my lil blog, have a great weekend!

thursday (fantastic)

gap shell {thrifted}   old navy facet button cardigan {thrifted}
semantiks cotton shine skirt {thrifted}    silver belt {thrifted}
missoni for target suede pumps {thrifted target stock}
croft & barrow necklace   forever21 ring
how about a 100% thrifted outfit?  minus the necklace and ring, but just go with it for my sake!  you know that feeling when you get when an outfit comes together and you feel so fantastic in it all day long?  that was this outfit.  i felt put together, professional, feminine, and fun too with the accessories and shoes.  and my weird hairdo, i'm trying to branch out and try some different hairstyles.  have a great evening!

wednesday (challenged: bow blouse)

 old navy bow tie blouse {temporarily swapped}   gap cardigan
semantiks skirt {thrifted}   handmade necklace
target belt   american eagle myles riding boots
why is it that the week leading up to a vacation is always so stressful?  i always feel twice as stressed before i can finally leave for a vacation and totally let it all go.  all i can think about is everything that needs to be done around my apartment before the end of the week {i can't stand coming home to a messy apartment after a trip... or knowing that my pet sitter is going to see my mess while i'm away!}.  hopefully my look didn't come across as disheveled as my mind feels.  i wasn't quite sure how to wear this bow-tie blouse whitney sent me for our challenge this week; i tried to be creative and wear it backwards but that didn't work, so i wore it the most natural way tied loosely in the front.  i remember seeing this blouse at old navy but didn't snatch it up, so i'm glad i got to wear whitney's!  if you haven't been with me this week, my friend whitney from between the lines and i are participating in a challenge to style some of each other's clothes that we get stuck wearing the same way over & over.  i have a few more of her pieces to wear, so stick with me!
thanks to any new followers who have come over here from whitney's blog, i hope you are enjoying following our challenge from both perspectives!

{see how whitney wore it here}

monday (pained)

merona watercolor blouse {thrifted}   semantiks cotton shine skirt {thrifted}
merona snakeskin belt {thrifted target stock}   mossimo veronica heels
i think this will be the last time i will have bare arms & bare legs for the rest of the year and that is just fine by me!  this will also be the last time i wear these heels, as my coworkers and i decided to take a walk after lunch... i thought it would be a quick jaunt around the block but instead  it lasted 2.1 miles (i tracked it in google maps to check).  and yes, these are the shoes i wore for all 2.1 miles and they are now pretty much toast (as are my feet).  the little end of the high heel part wore completely down & broke off at some point.  i think i'd be a little more bummed out if these were a newer or nicer pair of shoes.  instead they will be relegated to the back of my closet until i decide what to do with them... and i will be bringing a pair of flats to keep under my desk for any future walks!
