although i quite like the polka-dots peaking out of the top and bottom of my sweater, the highlight of this outfit is definitely the necklace!  i often get asked where i buy my jewelry or where i find inexpensive jewelry and charming charlie is one option.  i received a gift card there for christmas so i instantly signed up for their email list and they have offered a "buy one, get one free" clearance jewelry item at least twice since december.  what a great way to stock up on fashion jewelry!  target is also my go-to store to find inexpensive but decent quality jewelry.  of course, i have a specific price point in mind of what i am willing to spend on necklaces, so i always wait until items go on clearance.

this outfit was most definitely a whomp whomp.  i quite enjoyed the statement necklace joined with the fun pattern of the polka dot button-down, but mid-morning i was squatting in a resident's room doing an assessment and one of the rectangular black pieces fell into my lap.  when i got back to my office, another fell off onto my desk.  the pieces had actually fallen off during shipping but i tried to hot glue them back on because it felt silly to return a $7 necklace.  i guess i didn't do a good enough job or the necklace is just beyond repair, though, and sadly i'll have to go back.

needless to say, i took the necklace off after that happened this morning since there was no way to rotate it around my collar so one of the empty pieces wouldn't show, but i put it back on to take pictures to show the effect i was going for.  isn't it the worst when you have to return something you really like because of something out of your control?

my friend brynn wore this exact shirt earlier this week so i used her as my inspiration to put together an outfit with this shirt myself.  the polka dots are navy but they're so small that i think they could easily pass as black, so i kept my bottom-half neutral with black tights and flats and added the magenta skirt for some color.  my only regret is that i didn't add some sort of necklace--it seems like it's missing something.  i don't know why i never have these realizations until the end of the day and i take pictures as opposed to the start of the day when i'm looking in the mirror!

old navy consistently ranks as one of my favorite stores because they always have great button-downs season after season, and they've also been my go-to store for jeans for a long, long time.  so how can you really say no to picking up such great staples?  clearly i can't; i think i put in an order at oldnavy.com a few times a year!  at least there are always really great sales.  what's the last item you picked up from old navy?
