have you guys heard about thredup's new collaboration with target?  i was browsing the clearance racks at target over the weekend hoping to use the 20% clearance clothing cartwheel (now expired) and saw a girl wearing a thredup t-shirt holding an ipad.  curious, i hovered until she was done speaking to a couple other people, then she turned to me and asked if she could speak to me while i was browsing.  i was pretty excited to tell her i already know all about thredup and shop there frequently (the skirt i'm wearing today is one of my favorite finds there).

turns out, thredup and target have teamed together to allow you to fill up a clean out bag, drop it off at guest services at target, and receive your credit in the form of a target gift card instead of thredup credit.  i was able to sign up and receive a thredup bag in store but right now it only seems to be offered at select minnesota stores (target is headquartered here).  i like receiving credit at thredup that i can then use there, but i think i this something i will definitely try at least once with the bag i received.  i have a clean out bag that has been filled for the longest time that i just haven't brought over to a fedex store to be shipped, but i visit my local target at least once a week!

do you think this is something you would take advantage of if it expands into your area?

this look was based around the earrings i'm wearing but it feels silly to point that out as my earrings are so hard to see around my hair!  there is a detail shot in this post.  i love the combination of the navy, mint, and dark red beads that comprise my earrings and found similar colored items in my closet to wear.  this classic navy skirt pulls through for me time and time again; it almost feels magical because it always fits despite any weight fluctuations that cause me to shift other skirts to the back of my closet for being ill fitting.  isn't that the best feeling?  i pair just about every color with navy (even black!) but especially liked it with this burnt orange color.

i mentioned in a "20 things" video i posted many months back (i shudder to link to it as i don't know that i want anyone watching it again!) that i didn't really have any favorite etsy shops, but i've realized that is totally incorrect!  i forgot about wifeysinger's shop where i ordered these earrings - she has adorable beaded hoop earrings and a tassel necklace i have my eye on.  plus another new favorite, octavia bloom, who i referenced yesterday.  a friend purchased earrings for me from sweet & simple a couple birthday's ago so i try to remember to visit her shop once in a while as she's a local designer.

i never really think to go to etsy because it can feel overwhelming to browse, but i also never really remember to check out these shops that i've purchased from before.  i wish there were an easier way to keep up to date on favorite etsy shops - does anyone know if there is?

i bought this dress s couple months ago with the intention of wearing it to a friend's november wedding as i mentioned here, but i don't want it to be a dress i only wear to special occasions as those occur pretty infrequently in my life.  i figured it would work for work despite my super casual office.  somehow layering on a cardigan helped me feel more comfortable in it even though its short sleeves lended themselves perfectly to today's 90* high temperature.  my only gripe is the neckline appears to bow out in the front and back and i couldn't get it to lay flat against my clavicle. not sure what that's about (my posture?) but my necklace kept dipping below the neckline!

speaking of this necklace, a couple weekends ago my sister, a friend, and i made our way to not one but two art fairs!  i stumbled upon the designer octavia bloom's booth at one of them and had to go back three times because i kept thinking about this necklace!  the $50 price tag was way beyond what i would ever pay for jewelry, but upon closer examination i realized just how intricate her designs are and how much i appreciated her craft.  plus, it has to be hard being an independent designer traveling around to art and craft shows and manning your booth for 8+ hours, so i felt good about supporting her as well as adding this gorgeous necklace to my collection!

is it fair & festival season where you live?  do you use those events to add something special to your wardrobe or home even if the price tags are usually a bit on the higher end?

if i look exceptionally happy in these pictures it's because they were taken last friday when i left work at noon!  the past week and a half at work has been more busy than usual for me as i've been tasked with handling the admissions process at the nursing home where i work due to the other individuals who handle this responsibility being absent.  there are so many fine details one doesn't really realize need to be addressed when someone is at the hospital and preparing to discharge to a nursing home for rehabilitation--but i feel great knowing i am learning more skills in this department and that i've gotten good feedback from colleagues that i really keep my calm amidst the craziness.  i think that's the best compliment i could receive!

because i've put in so many extra hours lately, i only needed to work five hours on friday so that is all i worked!  i came home, ate my lunch on my deck with no threat of inhaling secondhand smoke from my neighbors as they were gone (this was the biggest joy of my day!).  then i went for a walk around the neighborhood and spent the rest of the day relaxing and reading--precisely what i needed.  

here's to hoping we all find some rest and relaxation this week!

if this isn't an outfit i've worn before i'd be surprised!  "neutrals" seems to be the buzzword around the blogging community these days but me, i like my colors and patterns.  they make me feel cheerful and happy and i think it affects those i interact with to feel the same way too.  i don't want to get lost in the sea of black pants, black tops, and black shoes so many working women seem to default to (at least at my workplace.)  i think it's fun taking one colorful item as the starting point like these wedges and picking a top, bottom, it accessory that matches.  it always makes getting dressed easier in my opinion!

this outfit is pretty similar to one i wore a week ago but i just had to do it.  i love the look of sleeveless dresses, button-downs, and a belted waist!  i lamented the poor fit of this blouse a couple months ago but hidden underneath a dress no one is any wiser that a few of the buttons don't stretch far enough to button!  of course i realize the rhinestones aren't even that visible beyond my hair and the way the collar falls - grr!

i usually don't condone keeping clothes that fit poorly or have to be rigged in order to be worn - i once found a new target stock skirt at the goodwill that was about 4 sizes too big so i pulled the fabric taut on one side and affixed a binder clip to keep the waistband together and masked it with an open cardigan and big belt - that is way too much work for a skirt that wasn't even all that great!  after that silly experiment, i decided never again.  it's too easy to get sucked into thrifting things that aren't your size that you convince yourself you can make work.  it was hard to accept that reasoning and pass up this blouse though so i'll have to reassess the fit the next time i want to wear it to see if i am going to keep it around!

the last time i wore this blouse i didn't want to wear a necklace as i thought it would detract from the lace paneling... and today i covered it up with a scarf!  ha!  this is such a me look though and i loved the lighter pretty colors against the black jeans.  i swear, this scarf goes with anything!

i've been a little short on words lately so today i thought i'd join anne and participate in her "currently..." link-up today!

playing:  my sister and i visited some friends over the weekend and we played through quite a stack of tenzi cards - i've never played the game before but we had so much fun!  i love the idea of playing games like banagrams, farkle, etc but they always end up in a box in the closet and we never drag them out!  my sister and i agreed that we need to put a little basket of games like this on our kitchen table that we play when we eat dinner instead of immediately taking our plates to the couch where we sit and eat in front of the tv (please tell me we're not the only people who do this more days out of the week than not...)

going:  is it festival and fair season where you live yet?!  my sister and i are checking out two art fairs this weekend.  they are always a fun opportunity to rally friends together and check out local artists & designers (i am so excited to get a state-themed shirt from these local guys).

wearing:  my fitbit!  despite it's rubbery, clunky nature i am still remaining loyal to my fitbit and wearing it every minute of the day except when i sleep; i don't have any problems sleeping so i don't feel the need to use it to track my sleep.  in fact, on our way home last night  my sister dropped me off a ways down the road and made (cough, encouraged, cough) me to walk the remaining ten minutes home so i could get in all my steps.  seriously!  but it worked!

sipping: G&Ts.  about two years ago i decided i needed to come up with a mixed drink that i liked so i don't appear so inept when i attend a social function, wedding, or take a rare trip to a bar and need to know what to order.  enter the gin & tonic, a perfectly light and refreshing beverage that i can be assured any bartender can whip up for me but more often than not i make for myself at home at least once a week in the spring/summer.

reading: i've been reading a lot of contemporary romances lately because they're easy, entertaining reads with realistic characters and plot-lines and always follow a great structure with beginning, middle, climax, happy ending.  those are my kind of stories!  i did also recently read at the water's edge, the new book by sara gruen!  i was really fascinated by the setting and time period and the interplay of the plot lines in which certain characters were searching for the loch ness monster and others were searching for love.

do you go through phases every few weeks or months where you have a favorite outfit you've worn and you feel like nothing else you put together will match how great you felt in that outfit?  i skimmed through my 2015 archives to try to find the last outfit i remember feeling that great in and it was probably this outfit with my merona fit and flare dress, pink and yellow floral scarf, and hot pink belt!

however, today's outfit may creep forward to take that spot.  despite my unruly hair (no one believes me, but the humidity is just as bad in minnesota as it was when i lived in georgia!), i loved how this outfit came together - this old navy dress will be a winner for years to come and the violet-colored button-down complemented it so nicely.  i loved those two colors next to each other, especially with the coordinating belt that pulls them together as well as the tan shoes.

it sounds a bit like i'm tooting my own horn, but i guess this whole blog is about that!  haha.  i love outfits that are coordinated and cohesive and that is the feeling i was left with here.  thanks for visiting!

target beauty box.

 

i've posted a handful of times about the different target beauty boxes that i've purchased in the past and another one was released today.  i snagged it mid-morning at work today, but upon checking the website when i got home it looks like it's still available. i thought i'd publish a quick post since a few of you have expressed an interest but they usually sell out so quickly that i'm not able to tell anyone about it in time!

unfortunately, i know the nail polish will be a throw-away item for me as i don't really care for any nail colors aside from nudes or pinks, but maybe they'll send me a color other than blue?  i'm curious about the nail polish remover pads as when i do paint my nails, i hate removing the polish once it starts chipping.  i've received the fekkai dry shampoo in a previous box and i feel it's a good product, but it is something i've already received.  i'm really looking for the eye cream and lip stick to make up for the cost of the box - and i'm sure the regular price of that lip stick is around the cost of the box, so i'm sure it will!
